as if / as though는 unreal한 상황에만

as if / as though는 마치 ~인것 처럼, 마치 ~인것 같이라는 뜻이다.

 

그런데 아래와 같이 쓰면 틀린 표현이 된다.

you look as if you are tired. (tired가 real situation인 상황)

as if와 as though는 사실이 아닌 상황에만 쓰이는 표현이다. 그러므로 위와 같은 표현은 틀린표현이다. 이렇게 바뀌어야 한다.

you look tired.

 

다른 예,

the teacher is shouting at us as if he's very angry 선생님은 화나지 않았는데 화난척 하면서 우리에게 소리쳣다.

the teacher is shouting angrily at us . 선생님은 화가나선 우리에게 소리쳣다.
